Uganda’s financial system has gone through lots of innovations and transformations. Before now, making international payments or even sending money to your friends or family members locally was a hassle until the country’s bank introduced some innovations, including credit cards. 

With credit cards, Ugandans can now for for things like fuel, airtime, and groceries from their comfort of their homes or offices. One such card is the Absa Platinum Visa Credit Card. The Absa Visa Credit Card is issued by the Absa Bank Uganda Limited. The bank is licensed by the Bank of Uganda and regulated by the same bank. 

Absa Bank Uganda Limited is primarily involved in solving the financial difficulties experienced by the banked and unbanked members of the public. Here, we will take a look at the Absa Visa Credit Card. We will discuss the card’s functionality, benefits, and how to apply for the card. 

Platinum Credit Card

The bank supports two types of cards: Platinum Credit Card and Classic Credit Card. The Platinum Credit Card is designed for the rich and wealthy customers. It comes with a wide range of benefits and features, including that joining fees are waived, free travel insurance, rewards, free direct debit set up, and free monthly eStatements.

Card holders will also enjoy up to 3 supplementary cards and up to 50 days interest-free credit. Other features and benefits include free transactions, discounts at some partner points, Free internet banking service, emergency card replacements, and 40% of card limit available for cash withdrawal.

The travel insurance covers a card holder whenever they are traveling within Uganda and every other African countries. If you book a flight and the airline eventually cancelled the flight, the travel insurance also covers you, enabling that you get the cash back from the airline with a reward.

Classic Credit Card

The classic credit card has almost similar features with the platinum type. It also has a wide range of benefits, which include free internet banking service to enable every card holder easily manage their transactions online and free direct debit set up; plus, monthly electronic statements. Every new card holder will also enjoy interest-free period of up to 50 days and free transactions.


ABSA Platinum Credit Card comes with reward points that you can activate. As a Platinum Credit Card holder, when you pay for goods and services using your card, you’d be entitled to earn rewards. If you UGX1 to purchase goods or services, the bank rewards you with 1 reward point.

The reward points that you earned will be immediately credited to your credit card within 48 hours after redemption. Please note that the reward points usually last for only 3 years from the date of redemption, after which the points will expire.

Apply For ABSA Platinum Credit Card 

The ABSA Platinum Credit Card is readily available at any Absa Bank Uganda Limited branch nationwide. You can walk into any branch closest to you, pick a form, and apply for the card. The bank official will issue the card to you provided you have these documents handy: Identification documents like a national ID, passport, and driver’s license.

You must also possess proof of income like your fixed deposit certificate or your payslips. If you don’t have any of these two, ensure you have a financial card copy. Alternatively, you can apply for the ABSA Platinum Credit Card by submitting an application online.

When you land on the application form, select the product type, enter your name, phone number, email, and any other important information you would like to add. Then, select your region and submit the form for processing.

How can I activate my ABSA Platinum?

The process of activating your credit card is very simple and straightforward. All you need to do is to download the bank’s mobile app on your smartphone and then link the credit card with the mobile app.

You may likely receive a 6-digit verification code to ensure that you are the rightful owner of the card. Enter the 6-digit code in the space provided, and you will be on your way to activating your credit card to enable you make online transfers or payments.

Can I change the default PIN?

Of course, you can change the default PIN that comes with your credit card. The banks even encouraged every card order to change their default PIN to the PIN of their choice. One thing you should always take note is that you should not reveal your PIN to a third-party; otherwise, the third-party may hack into your account to steal your money.

What if I misplace my credit card?

It is not a big deal to misplace or lose your credit card however you must immediately notify the bank’s customer support decks so that they can immediately blocked access to your account through the credit card.

If you fail to reach out to the bank to report the issue the person in possession of your credit card can use the card to steal your funds.
